Another member of the Leiter family is making a name in the Major League Baseball. Jack Leiter, son of former big leaguer Al, nephew to Mark, and cousin to Mark Jr. is given an early chance to showcase his talent at the highest level.
Raised in Summit, New Jersey, Jack Leiter attended Delbarton School in Morristown, where he played baseball alongside Anthony Volpe. Both are alumni of Arsenal USA Baseball and former students of The Hit Doctor USA. In July 2018, Leiter showcased his talent in the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game and later that year represented Team USA in the 2018 COPABE Pan-American Championships in Panama City, where he helped secure a gold medal. Despite being a top prospect for the 2019 MLB Draft, Leiter’s strong commitment to Vanderbilt University led him to decline signing with the New York Yankees, who selected him in the 20th round.
All of the Metroplex area is on “Leiter Watch” waiting for 1st round pick Jack Leiter to arrive in town. Could be party time for the Rangers when Jack gets into town to join a surprisingly good Texas Rangers squad. Go get ’em Jack. Go Arsenal USA. @ArsenalUSABB @jackleiter22 pic.twitter.com/fjTbnYOFpm

Jack Leiter played collegiate baseball at Vanderbilt University. On February 18, 2020, he made his debut pitching five scoreless innings with twelve strikeouts, helping Vanderbilt defeat the University of South Alabama 3-0 and winning SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. In his SEC debut on March 20, 2021, he struck out 16 batters while pitching a no-hitter against South Carolina. He pitched seven scoreless innings against Missouri after that outing. Leiter was selected as a unanimous first-team All-American and won the SEC Newcomer of the Year award. He ended the season as Baseball America’s 2021 Freshman of the Year, aiding Vanderbilt to the College World Series finals and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
The Texas Rangers chose Jack Leiter’s contract on April 18, 2024, and promoted him to his major league debut against the Detroit Tigers. Leiter threw 3 2/3 innings in his debut, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits and striking out three. He had a no-decision in spite of the difficult start, as the Rangers won the game 9–7.

However, he has proven that his success is built on more than just his last name. From his standout performances at Vanderbilt University to his rise through the Rangers’ system, Jack has consistently demonstrated elite talent, earning recognition as one of the top prospects in the game.
His journey has not been without challenges, as he faced the pressure of living up to his family’s legacy while forging his own path. Now, with his major league debut behind him, he is focused on building a name for himself and solidifying his place in the MLB, one pitch at a time.
